Picture Day – Week 9

Andrew and I got to experience the joy and excitement of seeing our little peanut for the first time.  Of course, I shed some happy tears during the event.  We were both thrilled to see the little one.  Officially, I was nine weeks and one day on the morning of the appointment.  The baby was measuring at 2.7 cm which is around 9 weeks and 3 days.  Everything looked great for me and the baby including the heartbeat of 160 bpm.

So without further ado here is our little one….

A Day of Firsts

Friday, July 12th was a day of firsts.  It started off with our first prenatal visit. We know several people who have recently had babies and have all had glowing recommendations for the OB/GYN office that we chose.  The office is connected to the hospital where we plan to deliver as well.  Our first visit was with a certified nurse midwife.  She was wonderful.  We spent almost an hour with her asking questions and learning more about what to expect.  The best part of the visit was the midwife reassuring me that other prenatal vitamins and a not so great diet are ok and won’t be harmful to the baby during the tricky first trimester.  I try hard to eat healthy, but a lot of things are not so appealing right now.  Hopefully the morning (afternoon/evening/night-time) sickness will get better within the next month.

Reassurance and Relief

On Monday, June 17th I started my summer school teaching at Central Middle School in Wayzata.  The summer school placement is a requirement for my teaching license in Minnesota.  Summer school that day went by quickly, but of course I had lots of other things on my mind!  Monday was also the day I needed to have another blood draw to determine my hcg level.  Last week during our scary visit to the ER they determined my hcg level was 385 which was in the normal range for being three weeks pregnant.  However, the doctor ordered a follow up hcg test to ensure that my level was increasing appropriately.

I called the nurse today to learn my new hcg level.  Believe me, I was THRILLED to hear the nurse say that my level was 3,241!!!!!  The nurse stated that it was a “beautiful” number and that she even had goosebumps for me!  On a side note, the nurses have been amazing so far at the Maple Grove Women’s Health Clinic.  The nurse shared my new information with my doctor and she was pleased as well.

Andrew and I are excited for our first prenatal appointment on July 12th.  I’m sure I will have more to share following our first visit.
