Week 19

This week has been a tiring one for me!  We haven’t had any big plans, but the long days at work definitely caught up with me.  I have felt more emotional and tired than ever.  This week I fell asleep pretty much immediately after eating dinner every evening.  I began to feel concerned that my…

A Day of Firsts

Friday, July 12th was a day of firsts.  It started off with our first prenatal visit. We know several people who have recently had babies and have all had glowing recommendations for the OB/GYN office that we chose.  The office is connected to the hospital where we plan to deliver as well.  Our first visit was with a certified nurse midwife.  She was wonderful.  We spent almost an hour with her asking questions and learning more about what to expect.  The best part of the visit was the midwife reassuring me that other prenatal vitamins and a not so great diet are ok and won’t be harmful to the baby during the tricky first trimester.  I try hard to eat healthy, but a lot of things are not so appealing right now.  Hopefully the morning (afternoon/evening/night-time) sickness will get better within the next month.

Reassurance and Relief

On Monday, June 17th I started my summer school teaching at Central Middle School in Wayzata.  The summer school placement is a requirement for my teaching license in Minnesota.  Summer school that day went by quickly, but of course I had lots of other things on my mind!  Monday was also the day I needed to have another blood draw to determine my hcg level.  Last week during our scary visit to the ER they determined my hcg level was 385 which was in the normal range for being three weeks pregnant.  However, the doctor ordered a follow up hcg test to ensure that my level was increasing appropriately.

I called the nurse today to learn my new hcg level.  Believe me, I was THRILLED to hear the nurse say that my level was 3,241!!!!!  The nurse stated that it was a “beautiful” number and that she even had goosebumps for me!  On a side note, the nurses have been amazing so far at the Maple Grove Women’s Health Clinic.  The nurse shared my new information with my doctor and she was pleased as well.

Andrew and I are excited for our first prenatal appointment on July 12th.  I’m sure I will have more to share following our first visit.

Early emotions.

There we were watching Downton Abby, and without warning, someone read the internet.  Leslie had been feeling steady discomfort for the last several days and began surfing the internet for answers.  She found some frightening responses, which prompted her to call the nurse’s line.
